It all starts today.
My life gets so hectic and loud and busy and what gets pushed to the side: prayer. Always prayer.
Prayer takes time, effort, quiet–all things difficult to come by for me. When I get out of the habit of prayer it is so hard to get back into it. So hard! But, Advent is coming, and I need to make a change. I am determined to. And through this change I hope to live more prayerfully and more deeply in the scripture through the practice of Lectio Divina.
Have you tried Lectio Divina? Yeah, I didn’t come up with it–it’s been around a long time, hence the Latin name. Lectio Divina is basically the deliberate, slow, contemplative reading of scripture that allows time for prayer, time with God and ends in a resolution. It’s simple but I’m not overstating when I say it’s life changing. It was for me. Seriously, life changing.
With Advent approaching a few dear friends of mine, and wonderful bloggers in their own right, Nell from Whole Family Parenting and Laura from Mothering Spirit, and I have been working very hard to put together a Lectio Divina based Scripture Study to help young mothers like us through the Advent season. It is called, Waiting in the Word: A Mother’s Advent Journey. It is our hope that through this study all of us busy moms can find time to reconnect to God and through Him our vocation as mothers and wives.
It’s a beautiful study but it isn’t quite ready yet. Don’t worry, it’s coming real soon!
In the mean time we’ve put together a shorter study as a way to get into the practice of Lectio Divina. This shorter study addresses one of the most challenging struggles in my own life: Distraction.
I live such a distracted life. Either it’s my phone, my projects, my book, my TV show, meal planning, regrets, my daydreams…but it’s hardly ever God and only seldom His Holy word that is occupying my mind.
I am so distracted. All of the time.
Can you relate?
This short study on Distraction will only take you a week to complete, but in that time it will teach you to find the quiet, live in the scripture and make room for God.
Doesn’t that sound good?
You can get the study HERE. The study includes a guide for practicing Lectio Divina as well as reflections on living Distracted from a mom like you (ummm, I wrote them) as well as a mini journal for you to use while practicing Lectio Divina. It’s all there. Once you subscribe the eBook will be sent directly to your inbox. If you have any issues getting it, just let me know and I will make sure you get a copy.
Along with the eBook we have created a Facebook community where we can talk about these struggles and how we encountered the scripture. We are all in this together! We all struggle and the scripture is there waiting for all of us. Find the quiet, put the time in with the Lord and His word and then come join us to discuss and celebrate. I plan on doing the study right along with you–I need it too!

It’s time to make room for God and prayer and peace.
